CONTEXTE DE FORMATION UNIVERSITAIRE D’ÉTUDIANTS RÉSIDENTS PERMANENTS (ERP) AYANT IMMIGRÉ AU QUÉBEC

Cet article rend compte d’une partie des résultats d’une recherche sur les facteurs qui freinent ou facilitent la persévérance aux études universitaires d’étudiants résidents permanents (ERP), donc récemment immigrés au Québec. La collecte des données s’est déroulée dans six établissements d’enseignement supérieur au Québec, auprès de ERP et d’enseignants (professeurs et chargés de cours), par le bais de questionnaire en ligne et d’entretiens. Les résultats montrent que les ERP conjuguent stress d’acculturation et stress académique. Cette imbrication est illustrée à travers les défis que rencontrent les ERP, de l’admission aux transactions avec les ressources institutionnelles, en passant par le contenu-le déroulement des cours et la maitrise du français et de l’anglais.
THE EDUCATION CONTEXT OF UNIVERSITY STUDENTS WITH A PERMANENT RESIDENT STATUS (PRS) WHO IMMIGRATED TO QUEBEC
This article presents partial results from a study on the perseverance barriers and facilitators of university students with a permanent resident status (PRS) who immigrated to Quebec. Data collection took place in six higher education establishments in Quebec with ERP and teachers (professors and lecturers) who responded to an online survey and participated in interviews. Results indicate that the ERP experience an interlocking of acculturation stress and academic stress. This imbrication is illustrated in ERPs’ challenges, from admission to transactions with institutional resources, as well as course content, course organization, and learning French and English.
