FAMILY LIFE EDUCATION: IDENTITY, OBJECTIVES, AND FUTURE DIRECTIONS

Abstract

Family Life Education is a new profession. As such, it has a history, and is developing a body of knowledge, standards and style of practice, areas of research, and a vision of its future. This paper reviews the literature in these elements and assesses the status of the profession in its identity. RÉSUMÉ L'enseignement de la vie de famille est une nouvelle profession qui de cet fait, a une histoire et se constitue une somme de connaissances, de normes et de démarches, en plus d'offrir des possibilités de recherche et une vision de son avenir. Le présent article fait l'analyse de la documentation parue à ce sujet et évalue la situation de la profession par rapport à son identité.

Author Biography

Jan Tennant, Concordia Univesity

Jan Tennant, who leads various programs as a family life educator in the Montral area, did her studies in family life education at Concordia University in 1986. She holds a B.A. degree in Applied Social Sciences (1987) from Concordia University and is currently completing a Master's degree in Educational Psychology (Family Life Education) at McGill University. Jan Tennant, qui dirige divers programmes d'enseignement de la vie de famille dans la région de Montréal a fait ses études à l'université Concordia en 1986. Elle est titulaire d'un B.A. en sciences sociales appliquées (1987) de l'université Concordia et elle achève sa maîtrise en psychopédagogie (enseignement de la vie de famille) à l'université McGill.
