DRAMA AND THEATRE EDUCATION IN CANADA: A SNAPSHOT

Abstract

This “Note from the Field” provides an overview of what is happening in K to University drama and theatre education across Canada. In addition to this snapshot I offer some considerations for extending this discipline and its potential impact on curriculum, policy and practice.

ENSEIGNEMENT DU THÉÂTRE ET DE L’ART DRAMATIQUE AU CANADA: UN PORTRAIT

Cette « Note du terrain » dresse un portrait du milieu de l’enseignement du théâtre et de l’art dramatique au Canada, du préscolaire à l’Université. En complément de ce portrait, je formule quelques suggestions pour enrichir cette discipline et augmenter son influence sur les programmes, les politiques et les pratiques.

MINDY R. CARTER is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Integrated Studies in Education at McGill University. Her areas of interest include teacher identity, teacher education, drama and theatre education, arts based educational research methods and curriculum theory. MINDY R. CARTER est professeur adjoint au département d’études intégrées en sciences de l’éducation de l’Université McGill. Dans le cadre de ses recherches, elle s’intéresse à l’identité de l’enseignant, à la formation des maîtres, à l’enseignement du théâtre et de l’art dramatique, à la méthodologie de recherche axée sur les arts, telle qu’utilisée en éducation, et à la théorie des programmes.
