NATIONAL-CONSCIOUSNESS GOALS AND REALITIES IN SOUTH AND EAST ASIAN EDUCATION
Abstract
This paper discusses five ways South and East Asian countries are trying to enforce or reenforce national-identity goals through: (1) quantitative expansion of education; (2) standardization of the education system and of its programs and curricula; (3) promoting nationally unifying doctrines, beliefs, personalities, or languages; (4) expanding federal government control of education; and (5) amalgamation of ethnie minority groups. Downloads
