TRENDS AND DEVELOPMENTS IN HIGHER EDUCATION IN AUSTRALIA

Abstract

Since I assume that most readers of the McGill Journal are not familiar with the Australian educational scene, I propose to outline briefly the traditional pattern of higher education here. I hope that this introduction may serve to illumine the recent developments and current trends which I shall then try to describe.

R. Selby Smith, formerly Dean of the Faculty of Education and Foundation Professor of Education, Monash University, Australia, is now Principal of the new College of Advanced Education in Tasmania.
