THE GAP BETWEEN "TRADITIONAL" AND "WESTERN" VALUES - RAPID SOCIO-CULTURAL CHANGE AND STUDENT MENTAL HEALTH
Abstract
In order to clarify the data on inter-generational and identity conflict of Cree and Liberian students experiencing conditions of rapid socio-cultural change, comparisons will be drawn along three parameters: 1) attitudes toward education, 2) the influence of beliefs in witchcraft and spirit possession, and 3) defence mechanisms employed to cope with role conflict. Finally, the question of resolution of identity conflict is considered and hypotheses formulated for further study.Downloads
