Abstract
Ce compte-rendu appartient à une série de trois articles de la section Forum sur le livre de Barnes (2016), Are They Rich Because They’re Smart? qu’il résume pour contextualiser le débat opposant les deux autres articles. L’ouvrage analyse les inégalités sociales causées par le capitalisme et l’intensification des conflits qu’elles produisent. Il critique les autocongratulations des élites justifiant leurs privilèges et pouvoirs par leurs diplômes. Enfin, il soutient que les travailleurs mèneront des luttes pour changer le monde qui changeront également leur image d’eux-mêmes.
SOCIAL CLASSES AND LEARNING IN A CAPITALIST REGIME
This summary of Barnes’ (2016) book, Are They Rich Because They’re Smart?, is one of three book reviews that appear in this issue’s MJE Forum. The review summarizes the book and serves to contextualize the debate opposing the two other articles that appear in the series. The book analyzes the social inequalities caused by capitalism and the intensification of the conflicts they produce. The author criticizes the elites’ self-congratulatory justification of their privileges and powers through their diplomas. Finally, it contends that workers will lead struggles to change the world and through these struggles, they will also change their self-image.
