THE VICTORIAN SPORTING LEGACY
Abstract
That the Victorians' enthusiasm for sport was reflected in the "public" schools and universities is hardly surprising. What is significant, is that the pursuit of athletics in these institutions did not simply mirror sporting developments in the larger society. To the contrary, the contribution made by these upper-class educational institutions to the growth, organization, popularization, and diffusion of modern sport was one of central and abiding importance.Downloads
