A DIDACTIC STUDY ON THE ALGEBRAIC MODELING OF PHYSICAL PHENOMENA
ABSTRACT. We recently proposed a new method of Graphico-Statistics Regression (GSR) which makes it possible to produce the mathematical model of a scientific phenomenon (Touma, 2006). The results of this technological research and development (R&D) in education show that students were easily able to use GSR during the scientific modeling process. These results also show that this method helps students have a better understanding of the algebraic rational underlying scientific modeling then a traditional method such as Gauss-Legendre’s least squares used in programmable calculators and spreadsheets.

We recently proposed a new method of Graphico-Statistics Regression (GSR) which makes it possible to produce the mathematical model of a scientific phenomenon (Touma, 2006). The results of this technological research and development (R&D) in education show that the students easily integrated it during the process of scientific modeling. These results also reveal that by using this method, the students understand its algebraic rational better then with the traditional method (least squares of Gauss-Legendre) used in an automatic way in programmable calculators and spreadsheets.
